Pantone, known as the industry standard for speaking about color and design across a multi-industry spectrum, has announced that the 2017 color of the year is greenery.
Their website has stated, in regards to the color choice:
“A refreshing and revitalizing shade, Greenery is symbolic of new beginnings.
Greenery is a fresh and zesty yellow-green shade that evokes the first days of spring when nature’s greens revive, restore and renew. Illustrative of flourishing foliage and the lushness of the great outdoors, the fortifying attributes of Greenery signals consumers to take a deep breath, oxygenate and reinvigorate.
Greenery is nature’s neutral. The more submerged people are in modern life, the greater their innate craving to immerse themselves in the physical beauty and inherent unity of the natural world. This shift is reflected by the proliferation of all things expressive of Greenery in daily lives through urban planning, architecture, lifestyle and design choices globally. A constant on the periphery, Greenery is now being pulled to the forefront – it is an omnipresent hue around the world.
A life-affirming shade, Greenery is also emblematic of the pursuit of personal passions and vitality.
What is the PANTONE Color of the Year?
A symbolic color selection; a color snapshot of what we see taking place in our global culture that serves as an expression of a mood and an attitude.” Pantone
So, the big question is how does this translate into weddings?
Greenery has long been assumed as the budget friendly option to add impact, texture, color, and movement into a piece without drastically increasing the overall costs. Although that theory remains mostly true, this year’s other trend – garlands, has proven otherwise.
Garlands have become the biggest recommended piece of “décor” for tablescapes, ceremony spaces, and seating chart frames. They have filled Pinterest boards with images of beautiful garlands perfectly paired with the glowing ambiance of candles. Hundreds of feet of greenery containing luscious variations of Eucalyptus, and the multi-toned, fragrances of Rosemary and Olive Branches, have falsely given the illusion that this a cost-effective option for décor.
This specialty greenery mixes come with a hefty price tag. The amount of time, material, and labor it takes is often underestimated when it comes to pricing out garlands. The sheer amount of greenery that is needed to remotely mimic the inspiration boards that so many clients give us, leaves many people disappointed when they realize how much it will cost to have their tables draped in greens.
The next big question after finding out this information, is usually, how can you still have the gorgeous look and feel of a garland without the price?
